dkeith109
Hi Newbie (so be gentle etc) I've just been granted a 189 visa and plan to move from UK to Oz in May. I have a healthy UK Civil Service Pension scheme pension (Premium scheme), which i had hoped to just transfer, but I understand I can't now. I thought Aussie schemes were QROP? If I can't transfer, do I have to wait until pension age is reached then be taxed UK rates? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks David
Andrew from Vista Financial
Hi David This is the background to proposed pension transfer ban coming into effect from April 6 2015 http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/money-finance/220374-government-response-uk-pension-ban-australia-qrops.html. Depending upon your scheme if it is classed as a funded scheme transfers can continue beyond this date if un-funded currently they cannot. If left in the UK then benefits can be taken at the normal retirement age of the scheme and the income would be assessed for tax in Australia. Hope this helps. dkeith109
Hi Andrew. Thanks very much for the info. I've engaged a UK financial adviser now to cover all the aspects of our move, who confirms your advice. I'm very grateful you took the time to respond. Many thanks, David
